Best Cafes in Liege

Cafe Constantin

A small but nicely ambient café, it’s located in a touristy area, so I assume it gets crowded. However, I went at opening time on Sunday, so it was empty. I passed by it twice later in the day, and it was always full.

Their cookies are legendary. I tried the banana chocolate and sugar-free one for a lighter start to the morning and loved it. The staff’s favorite was the triple chocolate one, but they said it was quite rich, so I skipped it. If I lived here, I think I’d get addicted. The coffee was also very good.

Sam’s Coffee House

If you ask where all the young and middle-aged people of Liège are on a Sunday morning, I’d say Sam’s Coffee House. Many seats were reserved and it was crowded. They had plenty of options for breakfast and delicious-looking sweets. I only had a cappuccino and enjoyed the atmosphere. The decor is quite nice, chic, and comfortable, with its own unique vibe. It definitely deserves its popularity. While sitting here, a very elderly lady came in with her daughter, and watching her slow and careful steps made me very emotional. Just as I was getting lost in this sentimentality, a girl, whom I assumed was Belgian, started speaking Turkish with a Turkish boy. Her Turkish was quite good. As I was leaving, I approached them and told the girl she spoke very well, to encourage her. It was a pleasant moment.

On the way from Le Grand Curtius to Sam’s, I came across the mural below, which is quite close to Sammy’s. I’ll leave it here in case you want to check it out.

Le Théâtre du Pain

For breakfast, I chose Le Théâtre du Pain, which is highly rated and reasonably priced for croissants. Their sweets and bread looked delicious, and many people were there on Sunday morning to grab something for breakfast. While the croissant was tasty, it wasn’t crispy enough. If you want, they also have a few tables inside where you can sit and have a drink.

When I was in Cafe Constantin, I have realized right across from it is Une Gaufrette Saperlipopette, where everything looked amazing. If I had known it would look so good and be so popular, I would have definitely chosen it instead of Le Theatre, but it was more crowded.
